Hola 안녕하세요 HelloI'm a heritage speaker of Korean,
born in Korea and raised in South America, Chile. I like to think and count in Spanish, dream in Korean, and read in English. |
I am an Assistant Professor of Spanish Linguistics at the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, Baylor University. I hold a Ph.D in Bilingualism and Second Language Acquisition from Rutgers University, MA of Spanish Language and Culture from Baylor University, MA of Consecutive Interpretation and Translation from Hankook University of Foreign Languages and a B.A of Spanish Language and Literature from Korea University.
My research focuses in bilingualism and second language acquisition among child and adult speakers. I investigate how the frequency of activation of the less dominant language (through Spanish for Specific Purposes courses, lexical frequency, social networks, Spanish use at home, Dual-language immersion programs) has an effect in the morphosyntactic development of Spanish as a heritage language and as a second/or third language. My research focuses in two areas: 1. Morphosyntactic development of Spanish as a heritage language among adult and child heritage speakers. 2. Cross-linguistic influence and morphosyntactic development among L2 learners of Spanish. My ultimate goal is to create cross-linguistically sharable resources and materials to support heritage language maintenance and efficient second language teaching practices. |
